Understanding Your Cat's Body Language

Cats are subtle communicators. Here's your guide to reading their signals:

The Slow Blink

This is a cat's way of saying 'I trust you.' Try slow blinking back — it strengthens your bond.

Tail Position

  • Upright tail: Happy and confident
  • Puffed tail: Scared or startled
  • Flicking tip: Thinking or slightly annoyed
  • Low tail: Nervous or unwell

Ear Position

  • Forward: Alert and interested
  • Flat/back: Scared or angry
  • Rotating: Listening to different sounds

Belly Exposure

A cat showing their belly means they trust you — but it's NOT always an invitation to rub it! Many cats prefer chin or cheek scratches.

Kneading

When your cat pushes their paws rhythmically, they're feeling content and safe. It's a behaviour from kittenhood!
